Our Cuba Street Atelier
Located above the busy and bustling Cuba Street, surrounded by some of Wellington’s best café, restaurant and retail offerings, is our beautiful workshop studio and showroom, providing a private, exclusive, one-on-one experience with our specialist team.
Find us at number 170, up on Level 1, in the heritage listed Maguire’s Building which was built in 1900, by architect Thomas Turnbull (1824–1907), also known for the Willis Street churches of St Peter (1879) and St John (1885), the Parliament Library (1899) and the former Bank of New Zealand Head Office (1901) in Wellington. There is a historical list occupants of the Maguire’s Building; including jewellers preceding us (1905-25 and 1961-68), watchmakers, fishmongers, tailors, tea merchants, pawnbrokers and cafés.
The Maguire’s Building has been beautifully restored and restrengthened by the current building owner, retaining the original brick walls, hardwood timber floors, Edwardian arched windows and vintage charm throughout. We wanted to respect the original aesthetics of the building by including native Rimu furniture made from the salvaged timber of the old BNZ bank in Wairoa. The timber furnishings have been crafted by Nick's father Phil Hensman at his wood workshop in Hawkes Bay.
We are proud to be a local, independently owned and operated business and support a community network. Our jewellery is designed and created right here at our Cuba Street workshop. We thank you for your ongoing support!
